Bookmark Assistant privacy policy
Last updated October 19, 2026
Bookmark Assistant is a Chrome extension that shows your own bookmarks beside your Google search results. It was built so that your bookmarks never leave your device.
What the extension uses, and where it stays
- Your bookmarks. Read inside your browser to find the ones that match your search. They are never sent anywhere.
- Your Google search query. Read from the results page you're on, only to match it against your bookmarks. It is never stored or sent anywhere.
- Page summaries. If you turn on descriptions, the short summary each bookmarked page provides for link previews is saved in your browser so it isn't loaded again. It's deleted when you delete the bookmark.
- Settings and counts. Whether the extension is on, and how many panels it has shown and bookmarks you've opened from them, are saved in your browser.
What it never does
- It has no server and no account, and it sends nothing to the developer or to any third party.
- It contains no analytics, advertising or tracking.
- It doesn't sell, share or transfer your data, and doesn't use it for anything other than showing your bookmarks.
The only network requests it makes
Descriptions are off until you click Show descriptions and allow Chrome's request for access to websites. After that, the extension loads each bookmarked page once to read its summary. It loads only pages that are in your bookmarks, and it never sends your cookies with these requests, so sites don't see you as logged in. As with any page load, the bookmarked site receives a request from your computer.
You can withdraw this access at any time: right-click the extension's icon, choose Manage extension, and turn off site access.
Changes to your bookmarks
The extension changes a bookmark only when you click its Delete button. It then offers Undo, which puts the bookmark back where it was.
Removing your data
Removing the extension from Chrome deletes everything it saved. Your bookmarks themselves are Chrome's and remain as they are.
